DAVID ANOINTED KING OVER ALL ISRAEL
Then
all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron, and told him that he was
their flesh and blood, and that in times past, when Saul was king, it was he
David who led Israel in and out. And so the Lord had appointed him over Israel
to rule over them; for the Lord had said unto him, “Thou shalt feed my people
Israel, and be a captain over us.” So all the tribes of Israel having come
together, they appointed David king overall Israel. David was thirty years old when he began to
reign, and he reigned forty years. In Hebron, he reigned over Juda seven years
and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty three years over all Israel
including Judah. When David went into Jerusalem there was a stronghold of the
Jebusites who challenged David and said to him that he could not take the city
except he first destroy the lame and the blind. But the threat notwithstanding,
David did took it, the stronghold of Zion, that same day; and David built a
fort and dwelt in it, and thereafter it was called the City pf David. And David
grew great because the Lord was with him. .
