BRAGADAYJAH 905
Saul dies at his own hands
Saul dies at his own hands
And so David’s decision that day to the
effect that all his men, whether they fought or missed the battle would share
in the spoils of war, became a custom in Israel. And when David returned to Ziklag, he shared
the spoils with the elders of Judah, also to his friends with the message,
“Behold a present for you of the spoils of the enemies of the Lord.” Equally
David gave portions of the spoils to every place he had lodged while on the run
from Saul. And about that time, the
Philistines fought against Israel and the men of Israel under Saul’s command
fled from before the onslaught of the Philistines; and the Philistines pursued them
until both of Saul’s sons were slain. Saul himself was hit by the archers and
was badly wounded; and he ordered his armor-bearer to run him through with his
sword, rather than being killed by the barbaric Philistines. But the armor
bearer would not because he was much afraid. So Saul fell upon his own sword
and killed himself. And when Saul’s armor bearer saw that Saul had killed
himself, he also killed himself by his own hand with his own sword. And so Saul’s two sons Jonathon and Abinadab,
Saul and his armor-bearer were all dead.
