BRAGADAYJAH 908

BRAGADAYJAH 908
David Mourned Saul's Death
“Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!”
We know exactly how Saul and his sons, including Jonathon died.  Yet some three days afterwards while David was still at Ziklag, a young man came to him, greeted him and paid him homage.  And having done so, David asked him how went the battle between the Philistines and Israel.  And the young man no doubt thinking David would have been elated at his news, and maybe give him a reward, invented a story to tell David.  The trouble was that he told David, when David asked him who he was, that he was an Amalekite. Mistake number one.  David had been destroying the Amalekites. That the battle against Israel had gone badly, and, mistake number two, that he had found King Saul mortally wounded, and at Saul’s request he had taken his sword and killed him. The stranger had with him Saul’s crown and the bracelet Saul wore on his arm, and he gave them to David, and also he told David Jonathon and Saul’s sons, and all those around him were dead.  Upon hearing the report, David and all his men likewise, tore their clothes and mourned the rest of the day until evening.  And when the evening was come, David spoke to the young men and asked him, “Were you not afraid to stretch forth your hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed? “ And David called one of his men and caused him to kill the stranger telling him, “Your blood be upon your own head for you have testified against yourself saying, I have killed the Lord’s anointed.”
