BRAGADAYJAH 907
So as we come to the end, or almost the
end of the episodes between David and King Saul. We see that Saul lived like a
rabid dog with a fixation on biting David, and not just wounding him but with a
rabid intention to slay him with the sword. We see David completely innocent, loving
Saul like an obedient son, fighting Saul’s battles for him and for Israel,
killing Goliath of whom Saul was afraid, slaying the enemy the Philistines ten
thousand for every thousand Saul himself killed. Sparing Saul twice when the
Lord delivered up Saul into his hands. Demonstrating his concern for the life
of Saul, forbidding his followers to lay a hand on Saul, regarding him as the
Lord’s anointed. And yes, we hear David saying, in effect, leave Saul alone the
Lord will deal with him in the Lord’s own time in His own way. And so it was. Saul lived like a dog and died
and buried like a dog, bereft of kingly tribute and kingly dignity. His body
mauled and beheaded and made a spectacle of. David’s motto was, “Touch not the Lord’s
anointed!” It is a pity Saul did not
practice that simple truth; for David was the Lord’s anointed and Saul paid the
supreme penalty for seeking to touch him and to do him harm.
