BRAGADAYJAH 940
Joab Defeated the Ammonites
In the meantime Joab continued to fight against Rabbah of the children
of Ammon and eventually took the royal city. And Joab sent messengers to David
and told him that he had taken the town and suggested he David gather the rest
of Israel together and encamp against the city and take it, lest he took it
himself and it be called by his name.
And David gathered the people together and fought against Rabbah and
took it. And he took the king’s crown from off his head the weight of which was
a talent of gold with its precious stones and it was set on David’s head; and
he took the spoils of the city in great abundance. And David took the people
that inhabited it and caused them to be put under saws and under harrows of
iron, and made them pass through the brick-kiln and so did he to all the cities
of the children of Ammon, before he returned to Jerusalem along with all the
people. A clearer translation of what David did to the Ammonites is to be found
in the book of Chronicles chapter 20 verse 3.
It reads “And David took the crown of their king from off his head and
found it to weigh a talent of gold and there were precious stones on it, and it
was set on David’s head.”(a parallel account) “And he brought out the people
that were in it and cut them with saws and with harrows of iron and with axes.”
