David
danced before the Lord
And
it came to pass that when David was on his way to take the ark to his own city,
that as they set off with the ark, David sacrificed oxen and fatlings unto the
Lord. And David, dressed only in an ephod, danced with all his might before the
Lord, as all Israel proceeded along with shouting and the sound of Instruments.
And as the ark of the Lord entered into the city of David, Michal, Saul’s
daughter looked through a window and saw David leaping and dancing before the
Lord and she held him inn contempt for doing so. And they brought in the ark of
the Lord and placed it in its place in the midst of the tabernacle that David
had pitched for it. And David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings
before the Lord. And as soon as David had finished offering burnt offerings and
peace offerings unto the Lord, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of
Hosts. And David gave to all the people, both men and women alike, a cake of
bread, a goodly piece of meat and a flagon of wine. And the people departed to
their own homes. And David returned to his own house to bless it, and Michal
his wife, came out to meet him and remarked, “How glorious was the king of
Israel today, who uncovered himself today in the eyes of the handmaids of his
servants as one of the vain fellows shamefully uncovering himself.” And David told her that it was before the
Lord who chose him before her father, and before all his house to appoint him
ruler over all of Israel the people of the Lord. Therefore, he said he would play before the
Lord. And to that end he would be even
viler still in his own eyes and in the eyes of the handmaidens of whom she
spoke even if they had no regard for him. And Michal the Daughter of Saul,
David’s first wife never bore children as long as she lived.
