BRAGADAYJAH 943
Tamar Disgraced.
Having been savaged and ravaged by her own brother, and then thrown
out of his home, Tamar tore her clothe, a sign of distress and put ashes on her
head, and wept bitterly. And Absalom her brother asked her what was the matter,
and knowing where she had gone and seeing her great distress, he asked her
whether Amnon her brother had been with her. She was reluctant to speak; but
Absalom persuaded her to tell all which she did, and she remained in her great
distress and shame in Absalom’s house. And when David heard about the affair,
he was very angry; but he did nothing.
So Absalom spoke not with his brother at all, because he was very angry
with him. And after two full years that Absalom had a sheep-shearing event in
Baalhazor which is near to Ephraim. And Absalom invited all the king’s sons.
And Absalom came to the king and told him what he was doing and invited the
king and his servants to attend the event. And the king was not in favor of
going, however much Absalom pressed him and made the excuse that he did not
want to be a burden to him, but he blessed him nevertheless. And Absalom told
the king that if he did not want to go, he should at least let Amnon go along
with them. The king wanted to know of Absalom why he wanted Amnon to go with
him. But Absalom pressed him and he consented.
