David
took time out and slayed the Philistines
While
Saul was chasing after David to kill him, the Philistines no doubt thinking it
was the most opportune time, rose up against the Israelites. So when David was
told that the Philistines were fighting against Keilah, and overran it, David
enquired of the Lord whether he should go and fight against the Philistines,
and the Lord told him yes. But David’s men told him that they were afraid where
they were in hiding, and asked him why should they then go and fight against
the armies of the Philistines? This made David enquire of the Lord again what
he should do; and the Lord told him to go and fight against the philistines,
for he would deliver the Philistines into his hand. So David and his men went to Keilah and
fought against the Philistines, and slaughtered them and took away their
livestock, thereby saving Keilah. But when Saul heard that David had gone to
Keilah and saved the town, Saul saw his opportunity of killing David; for he
said to himself the town had gates and bars and so he thought surely, the Lord
had delivered David into his hand at last. So he gathered his men and prepared
to march on David while he was entrapped in the city.
