David
and Jonathon became friends
And
after that, it happened that while David was speaking to Saul, Jonathon, Saul’s
son became very attached to David; and they became bonded together as one. And
Saul took David that day, and would not let him return to his father’s house;
and Jonathon and David made a pact because each loved the other as he loved
himself. And Jonathon stripped himself of the robe he was wearing and gave it
to David, as well as his garment, his sword, his bow and his girdle. And David
went wherever Saul sent him and behaved himself wisely; and Saul set him over
the men of war; and David was accepted in the sight of all the people and also
in the sight of Saul’s servants. And it happened that when David had returned
from the slaughter of the Philistines the women came out of all the cities of
Israel singing and dancing to meet King Saul with timbrels, and with joy, and
with instruments of music. And the women answered one another as they played,
and said, “Saul has slain his thousands and David his ten thousands.”
