BRAGADAYJAH
863
Saul
enquired of his servants who informed him that he had seen a son of Jesse, a
Bethlehemite who was a skillful player as well as a man of great bravery; he
was also a very discreet person of a charming personality, and beside the Lord
was with him. Saul then sent messengers
to Jesse with a message, saying, “Send me David your son, who is with the
sheep.” And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid,
and sent them by David his son to Saul.
And when David came and stood before Saul, he liked David immediately;
and David became his armor-bearer. And
Saul sent to Jesse asking him to allow David to stand before him because he
liked David. And it came to pass that every time the evil spirit came upon
Saul, David would play on his harp, and Saul would be revived, and the evil
spirit would go away.
