The Law of the offerings; the Peace offering
The peace offering as we shall see takes a special if not
unique place in the order of offerings; for the law of the peace offering is as
follow: Since it is a sacrificial offering unto the Lord, if it is an offer of
thanksgiving, then the priest shall offer with the sacrifice of thanksgiving
unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil and
cakes mixed with oil of fine flour and fried.
In addition to the cakes, he shall offer for his offering leavened bread
with the sacrifice of thanksgiving for his peace offering. And of it he shall
offer one out of the whole oblation for a heave offering unto the Lord, and it
shall be the priest who sprinkles the blood of the peace offerings. And the
flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving shall be eaten
the same day that it shall be offered, and none of it shall be left for the
morning of the next day.
We note the requirement for
leavened bread with the offering of the sacrifice of peace with the offering of
thanksgiving.
We note too, that the peace offering
being a sweet savor offering is placed after the non-sweet savor offerings or
third in order behind the sweet savor offering, then the non-sweet savor
offerings and lastly the sweet savor peace offering.
From the point of view of order and
relationship with God, we may see that the burnt offering represents that which
first of all is due to God, His divine love springing from His divine nature;
the trespass offering is a type which reminds us of who we are, even though we
come to him we still retain our sin nature; but last of all we come with our
offer of thanksgiving to make peace with God; for Christ is our Peace and it is
through him in type or reality we may come to make peace with the Father. More
