In looking at these intricate
details that God dictated with regard to the atonement of sin by way of animal sacrifice
and burnt offering, we may see and conclude that God’s concern was for the
sanctification of this nation that He via Moses led out of Egypt.
We may recall that the children of
Israel in their penchant for faithlessness and rebellion had asked Moses if he
had brought them out of Egypt to die of hunger and thirst; so now God wanted to
assure His people that He was just as concerned over their spiritual well-being
as their physical, hence the minute instructions concerning the means for
sanctification through confession of sin and sacrifice.
So now let us look at what God said
concerning the law of the offerings and burnt offering. “This is the law of the burnt offering: It is the burnt offering because of the
burning on the altar all night unto the morning, and the fire of the altar
burning on it.”
“The priest shall put on his linen
garment and his linen breeches and take the ashes made by the fire, and also
the burnt offering, and shall place them upon the altar.”
“Then having thus gathered and
placed the ashes and burnt offering on the altar, he shall remove the linen
garment and breeches and put on other clothes, and carry the ashes and burnt
offering to a clean place outside the camp. In doing so the fire from the altar
shall continue to burn, and to enable which the priest shall put wood on it
every morning so that the fire never goes out, and so that the fat of the peace
offering be burnt there also. More
