BRAGADAYJAH 1064
The Three Kings Smote the Moabites
Now when all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, they gathered together all those who were able to put on armour and stood on their border. And they rose up early in the morning and the sun shun upon the water and the Moabites saw the water as if it were blood and said to themselves, ”The kings have killed themselves and the people have slain one another.” So, therefore, they thought to themselves, that they would need only to go in and collect the spoils. And when they came into the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote them, so that they turned and fled before them; and the children of Israel pursued them even into their own country and slew them. And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and felled all the good trees. And the only place they did not fill with stone was Kirharaseth; but the slingers went through it and laid it waste. And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too sore for him he took with him seven hundred men, and tried to break through to the king of Edom but they failed to do so.
