BRAGADAYJAH 1053
Ahab died in battle.
So the kings of Israel and
Judah, Ahab and Jehoshaphat went up to Ramoth-Gilead. And Ahab told Jehoshaphat
that he would disguise himself and enter into the battle while Jehoshaphat
should disguise himself as Ahab by putting on Ahab’s robes. And so it was that
Ahab having disguised himself went into the battle. In the meantime the king of
Syria had instructed his thirty two captains who were over his chariots that
they should not fight with small or great but only with the king of Israel. So
that when the Syrian captains saw Jehoshaphat that they mistook him for the
King of Israel, and they attacked him.
And Jehoshaphat cried out; and when the Syrians saw that it was not
Ahab, they ceased from attacking him. And in the meantime, one of the bowmen
fired an arrow and hit Ahab, wounding him and so Ahab told his charioteer to
take him away from the battle, for he was wounded. And the battle became more
intense that day, and the king Ahab was held up in his chariot all day; and by
the evening he had bled to death. And it was proclaimed throughout the host of
Israel that every man should return to his own country. So the king of Israel died and was brought to
Samaria and they buried him there. And when they washed the blood out of the
chariot in which Ahab died, the dogs came and licked up the blood and they
washed his armour according to the word of the Lord which He spoke.
