BRAGADAYJAH 1053
King Ahab put the Syrian army
to flight.
So Ahab was told that the order
of the battle was in his hand; but God had decreed that he would give him victory
over the enemy, not because he was a good man of God, but in order that he may
know that God is the Lord. So Ahab numbered the young men of the princes of the
provinces, and there were two hundred and thirty two. And then he numbered all
the people and all together there were seven thousand. And they went out at
noon; but Benhadad was drinking heavily together with the thirty two kings that
helped him. And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first;
and Benhadad’s servants told him that men of Samaria were coming. And Benhadad ordered that they be taken alive
whether they came in peace or not. But the young men of Samaria were followed
by the army. And they slew the Syrians; and the ones that fled were pursued by
the men of Samaria; but Benhadad escaped on his horse with his horsemen. And Ahab went out and smote the horses and
chariots and the Syrians with a great slaughter. And the prophet of the Lord
went to Ahab, and warned him to mark his way and beware; for within a year, the
Syrians would return to fight against him.
