Jezebel plots the death of Naboth
And it came to pass afterwards, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard which was in Jezreel near to the palace of Ahab.at Samaria. And Ahab spoke to Naboth and told him to give him the vineyard that he may use it as a garden for his herbs, since it was near to his house. In return Ahab offered to give him an even better vineyard than his, or if he chose money in exchange. And Naboth told Ahab that the vineyard was part of his inheritance and he was not disposed to parting with it. And so Ahab returned to his home in a huff and upset because Naboth had refused his offer. And Jezebel, Ahab’s wife asked him why he was upset, and he told her of Naboth’s refusal over his offer. And Jezebel told her husband not to worry; to arise and eat and drink, because it was her intention to get the vineyard for him. So Jezebel wrote letters in the name of Ahab her husband and sealed them and delivered them to the elders and nobles in the city of Naboth. And in the letters she advised that they should proclaim a fast, and set Naboth in a place of prominence among the people. And also set two evil men beside him to make false accusations against him saying he had blasphemed against God and the king. And after they had discredited him to take him out and stone him to death.
