BRAGADAYJAH 825
Samuel recites life under a king (continued)
And he, [a king] will take your fields and your vineyards, and your
oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants. And he will
take your menservants and your maidservants, and your best young men, and your
asses, and put them to his work. And he
will take the tenth of your sheep and make you his servants. And you will cry out to the Lord in that day
because of your king which you have chosen, and the Lord will not hear you. But
having told the people all of these things, the people refused to listen to the
counsel of Samuel, and insisted that they wanted a king. Moreover they said we
want a king like other nations; to go before them, and to fight for them, and
to judge them. And when Samuel told the Lord all that the people had said, the
Lord told Samuel not to worry; that he should go ahead and make the people a
king; and Samuel made preparation to grant them their wishes for a king.
