BRAGADAYJAH 822
And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh
and chased the Philistines and smote them all the way until they arrived at
Bethcar. Then Samuel took a stone and
set it between Mizpeh and Shen and called the name of the place Ebenezer
because he said, hitherto has the Lord helped Israel, “and this stone is the
stone of help.” So the Philistines were
subdued and they came no more to the coast of Israel; and the hand of the Lord
was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel. And the cities which the
Philistines had captured were restored to Israel, from Ekron unto Gath; and all
the coasts of Israel was at peace. And there was also peace with the Amorites;
and Samuel continued to judge Israel to the end of his life. And Samuel went
from year to year on circuit to Bethel, Gilgal and Mizpeh and judged Israel in
all those places. And after visiting
those cities Samuel would return to his house at Ramah, where he had built an
altar to the Lord.
