BRAGADAYJAH 977

BRAGADAYJAH 977
Other Brave men who served David.
These were the same three mighty men of the thirty chiefs that were with David when he was in the cave of Adullam and surrounded by the Philistines.  They broke through the host of the Philistines to get water for David. When David had longed and said, “Oh that one would give me drink out of the water of the well at Jerusalem,” In response those three men had gone and gotten water, and brought it back to David.  But David would not drink it; for he said, “Far be it from me O Lord that I should do this.  Is this not the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives?”  Therefore David did not drink the water. There were also other brave and honourable men who fought alongside of and for David.  There was Abishai, the brother of Joab, son of Zeruiah, who was a captain, and was famous for killing three hundred with his spear. And there was Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son a valiant man of Kabzeel who had done many valiant acts.  He slew two lion-like men of Moab, and also slew a lion in his pit in the middle of winter. And he also slew an Egyptian who was a skillful man armed with a spear.  Yet Benaiah approached the man while he was armed with his spear, while Benaiah had only a staff.  Yet he disarmed the man and killed him with his own spear. These deeds did Benaiah and more.  He was also a brave and honourable man.
