Obey is better than Sacrifice.
And
Samuel said to Saul, “When you were little even in your own eyes, were you not
made head of the tribes of Israel? And so now, the Lord sent you on a mission,
and told you specifically, to go and utterly destroy the sinners, the
Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed. Wherefore then did
you not obey the voice of the Lord but did fly upon the spoil and do evil in
the sight of the Lord?” But Saul, not
willing even then to accept his shortcomings said, “No, I have obeyed the voice
of the Lord. I have done what the Lord sent me to do. And have brought Agag,
the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites. But the people
but the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the main things which should
have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God at Gilgal.” And
Samuel said to Saul, “Does the Lord have as great delight in burnt offerings
and sacrifice as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold to obey is better than sacrifice and
to hearken than the fat of rams.”
