Samuel
took steps to install Saul publicly as king of Israel
And
Samuel called the people together unto the Lord at Mizpeh, and said to them. ”Hear
the words of the Lord God of Israel; I brought you up out of Egypt and
delivered you out of the hands of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all the
kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you. And you have this day rejected me
your God who Himself saved you out of all your adversities, and your
tribulations, and you have said unto me, nay but set a king over us.” Now, therefore present yourself before the
Lord by your tribes and by your thousands.”
And when Samuel caused all the tribes of Israel to be gathered round about
him, the tribe of Benjamin was chosen. And when the tribe of Benjamin was sorted
by their families the family of Matri was chosen; and Saul the son of Kish was
chosen; but then when he was sought he could not be found.
