Saul’s
Rejection
And
Saul waited seven days according to the set time that Samuel had appointed; but
Samuel did not come to Gilgal, and the people were scattered from Saul. And
Saul demanded that a burnt offering be brought to him, and he offered it. And
it came to pass that as soon as he had finished making the offering Samuel came,
and Saul went out to greet him. And Samuel asked Saul what he had done; and
Saul explained that when he saw that the people were scattered from him, and
when he saw that Samuel did not come to Gilgal within the appointed time, and
that the Philistines were gathered together at Michmash, he decided that they
would overwhelm him; and seeing that he had not made supplication unto the
Lord, he persuade himself that the right thing to do would be to offer a burnt
offering unto the Lord. And Samuel told Saul that he had done foolishly, in
that he had not kept the commandment of the Lord; for if he had, the Lord would
have established the kingdom of Israel forever. But now the kingdom shall not
continue Samuel told him, for the Lord has sought Him a man after His own heart;
and the Lord has commanded him to be captain over the people, because, Samuel
told Saul. “You have not kept that which
the Lord commanded.”
