And
Samuel called upon the Lord; and the Lord sent thunder and rain that day; and
all the people feared the Lord and Samuel. And the people asked Samuel to pray
for them unto the Lord God, that they may not die, admitting they had done evil
in asking for a king. And Samuel told the people that they need not fear
because they had done so wickedly, but that they should turn unto the Lord and
serve Him with all their heart. That they should not turn aside from serving
the Lord to follow after vain things which could not profit them. He assured them,
however, that the Lord would not abandon His people for His name’s sake; since
it had pleased Him to make them His people. Samuel told them also that it would
be evil of him to cease to pray for them as it was his duty to do; but would
continue to teach them good from evil, and lead them in the right way. But he
warned them that if they continued to do wickedly, the Lord would consume them.
