So,
Moses told his people, “a father chastises his son, so also the Lord your God
will chastise you.” Therefore, he warned
them, “you must keep the commandments of the Lord your God, to walk in His
commandments and to fear Him. For the
Lord your God brings you into a good land; a land of brooks of water; of
fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hill; a land of wheat and
barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and
honey; a land wherein you shall eat bread without scarcity; you shall lack
nothing in it; a land where stones are iron; a land out of whose hills you may
dib bronze.”
“And
when you have eaten and are full, then you must bless the Lord your God for the
good land which He has given to you. Beware that you do not forget the Lord
your God and not keep his commandments and His ordinances and His statutes, all
of which I have commanded you this day. So that when you have eaten and are
full, and you build nice houses and dwell in them, and when your herds and your
flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are in abundance, and you have
become rich, your heart does not become lifted up and you forget the Lord your
God who brought you up out of the house of bondage in Egypt.
