continued to warn the people against apostasy in the new land. He said, “The
Lord shall scatter you among the nations and you shall be left few in number
among the nations where the Lord shall lead you. And there you shall serve gods
which are the work of men’s hands; gods made of wood and stone, which neither
see nor hear, nor eat, nor smell. But if when you get there you seek the Lord
your God you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and soul. When you are in tribulation, and all these
things are come upon you, even in the latter days, if you return unto the Lord
your God and be obedient to his voice, ({For the Lord your God is a merciful
God), He will not forsake you or destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your
fathers which He swore unto them. Ask me
now of the days that are past, continued Moses, days which were before your
time, going back to the day God created man upon the earth, and ask them from
one side of heaven unto the other whether there has been any such thing as this,
God speaking out of the fire and live? Or has God ventured to go and take Him a
nation from another nation by temptations and signs, and by wonders, and by war
and by a mighty hand, and by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors
according to all that the Lord God did for you in Egypt before your very
eyes? These things were done so that you
might know that the Lord He is God and that there is none like Him.
