The
Levites Forty Eight Cities
God
also commanded Moses to command the children of Israel to give unto the Levites
forty eight cities to dwell in the land of possession, and also pasture lands
for the cities surrounding them for their cattle and their livestock and their
goods. The extent of the pasture lands was to be outward from the city wall a
thousand cubits round about.
More particularly,
God commanded them to measure from outside the city all on the East side two
thousand cubits, on the South side two thousand cubits, on the West side to
thousand cubits and on the North side two thousand cubits with the city in the
center. And the area thus demarcated shall be the pasture land of the Levites.
