Moses
told by God to Prepare for his Death
And
now God old Moses, “Get up and get going, and go up to the Mountain Abarim and
from there you shall see the land which I have given to the children of Israel.
And when you shall see it you shall be gathered unto the people as Aaron your
brother was gathered. For you rebelled against my commandment in the desert of
Zin in the strife of the congregation to sanctify me in the water before their
eyes, that is to say in the water of Meribah in Kadesh in the wilderness of
Zin.”
And
Moses said to the Lord, “Let the Lord the God of the spirit of all flesh, set a
man over the congregation. A man who may go out before them, and go in before
them, and who may lead them out, and who may lead them in; that the
congregation of the Lord be not as sheep without a shepherd.”
And
the Lord said unto Moses, “Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the
Spirit and lay thy hands upon him. And set him before Eleazar the priest and
before all the congregation and give him a charge in their sight.”
“And
you shall put some of your honor upon him, that all the congregation of the
children of Israel may be obedient. And he shall stand before Eleazar the
priest who shall ask counsel of him after the judgment of Urim before the Lord.
At his word shall they go out, and at his word shall they come in, both he and
all the congregation of the children of Israel.”
And
Moses did as the Lord commanded; he took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the
priest and before the congregation of Israel; and Moses laid his hand upon
Joshua and charged him as the Lord commanded him.
