Now
as the children of Israel prepared to enter upon the promised land the Lord
continued to instruct Moses concerning firstly, the borders and boundaries of
the inheritance, and secondly those who were entitled to inherit, and reminding
him that the tribes of Reuben and Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh had already
opted to remain on the side they were on, being the side of the Jordan eastward
of Jericho, and so, therefore, would be excluded from a share in the land of
Canaan.
So
God showed Moses, if he did not already know, God knows the name of all his
children.
Those
who would share the land when it was conquered were:
Firstly,
God appointed, those who were to be in charge of the sharing, namely, Eleazar
the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, together with one prince from every
tribe. And of the names of the men there were, Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, and
of the tribe of the children of Simeon, Shemuel, the son of Ammihud; of the
tribe of Benjamin, Elidad, he son pf Chislon; the prince of the tribe of the
children of Dan Kukki the son of Jogli; the prince of the children of Joseph,
for the tribe of the children of Manasseh, Hanniel, the son of Ephod; the
prince of the children of the tribe of Ephraim, Kemuel the son of shiphtan; of
the prince of the children of the tribe of Zebulun, Elizaphan, the son of
Parnach; the prince of the tribe of the children of Issachar, Paltiel, the son
of Azzan; the prince of the tribe of the children of Asher, Ahihud, the son of
Shelomi; and the prince of the tribe of the children of Naphtali, Pedahel, the
son of Ammihud. These were the princes
whom the Lord commanded to share the inheritance.
