BRAGADAYJAH 1142
Gedaliah Appointed Governor
And having spoiled Judah, Nebuchadnezzar appointed Gedaliah governor
over the remnant he had left in the land to work in the fields. And when all
the captains of the armies and their men heard that the king of Babylon had
made Gedaliah governor, there came to Gedaliah, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah,
Johanan, the son of Careah, Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, the Netophathite and
Jaazaniah the son of a Maachathite along with their men. And Gedaliah swore to
them and told them not to be afraid to become the servants of the Chaldees, but
that they should dwell in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall
be well with them. But it came to pass that in the seventh month that Ishmael
the son of Nethaniah the son of Elishama of the seed royal came and ten men
with him and smote Gedaliah and he died, along with the Jews and the Chaldees
that were with him.at Mizpah. And after that in the thirteenth year after the
captivity of Jehoiachin, that the king of Babylon, Evil-merodach released
Jehoiachin from prison and treated him kindly and set his throne above the
thrones of his other kings, and the king ordered that he be given a daily
allowance all the days of his life. And the end all the days of the kings of
Israel and of Judah.
