BRAGADAYJAH 1129
The Book of the Law Found in the Temple
While the repairs to the house of the Lord were underway, Hilkiah the
priest found the book of the law within the house and told Shaphan the scribe
that he had found it, and gave the book to Shaphan the scribe to read. And
Shaphan the scribe took the book to the king, Josiah and told him that the
silver that was collected was been used for the repair of the house of the
Lord, and also that while the work was being done, Hilkiah the priest had found
in the house the book of the law; and he read the book to the king. And it was
so that when the king heard the words of the law read to him that he wept and tore
his clothes. And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest and Ahikam the son
Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah a servant of the king, to go before the
Lord to enquire for him and for Judah and for the people concerning the words
of the book of the law, for the wrath of the Lord that was kindled against them
was great, because their fathers had not hearkened to the words of the law, to
do according to all that was written in the law concerning them. So Hilkiah the
priest, and Ahikam and Achbor and Shaphan and Asahiah went unto Huldah the
prophetess the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah the son of Harhas keeper of
the wardrobe and communed with her, as she was dwelling in Jerusalem.
