Sihon refused to let Israel pass through his borders and instead
gathered his army together and attacked Israel at Jahaz. And Israel smote Sihon with the edge of the
sword and took his land from Arnon even unto Jabbok compassing all the lands of
the children of Ammon.
And so Israel conquered and possessed all the cities of the
Amorites including Heshbon the city in which Sihon dwelt, and they dwelt
therein.
After some time while dwelling in the former land of the Amorites,
Moses sent spies to spy out the land of Jazer and they took the villages
thereof and drove out the Amorites who dwelt there. Thereafter they marched towards Bashan and Og
and the King of Bashan and all his people went out and fought against Israel at
the battle of Edrei. During the battle
the Lord said to Moses, “Fear him not; for I have delivered him and all his
people and all his land and thou shall do to him as thou hast done to Sihon King
of the Amorites who dwelt in Heshbon.
So the children of Israel smote him and all his sons and there was
none left to him alive and Moses possessed their land.
