The Duties and Privileges of
Aaron and the Levites Affirmed
And the Lord spoke to Aaron and told him that
he and his sons of his father’s house shall be responsible for the iniquity of
the sanctuary as well as that of the priesthood, together with the sons of Levi
that they may be joined with them in rendering the ministerial duties of the
tabernacle of witness.
They were to keep the charge
of Aaron in service in the tabernacle save that on pains of death, they did not
approach the vessels of the sanctuary or the altar.
Aaron’s duties were
reiterated to him, that is the duty to keep the charge of the sanctuary and the
charge of the altar, that there be no longer wrath upon the congregation of the
children of Israel.
Therefore, God warned Aaron, ”Thou
and they sons with thee shall keep the priest’s office, for everything of the
altar, and everything within the veil; for ye shall serve; for I have given you
the priest’s office as a service of gift; and the stranger that comes near
shall be put to death.”
