BRAGADAYJAH 1176
The Building of the Walls of Jerusalem
After Nehemiah’s address to his brethren, Eliashib the priest rose up
with his brethren the priests and built; and they built the sheep-gate and they
sanctified it, set and set doors on it up to the towers of Meah and Hananeel
which they also sanctified. The sheep for the sacrifice were brought into the
city via the sheep gate, with the two towers Meah and Hananeel on either side
of it. In the meantime the building work continued, the men of Jericho built
next to Eliashib and next to them both Zaccur the son of Imri. But the fish
gate was built by the sons of Hassenaah. They built not only the gate but the
beam bars locks and doors. Also engaged in the work were, Meremoth the son of
Urijah the son of Koz and Meshullam the grandson of Mehezabeel, and Zadox the
son of Baana and next unto them Tekoites; but their nobles were not zealous
towards the work of the Lord. Nehemiah took careful notes of all those who participated
in this wonderful work and so this writer deems it important to mention these
names and these relationships. These chronicles are but further proof that the
Old Testament stories are not fables but real authentic history. [to be continued.]
