God’s People did not Separate Themselves
Now it was brought to Ezra’s attention by the princes that the people together with the priests and Levites, had not separated themselves from the people of the land in which they were carried captives and were doing according to the abominations of those people: the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians and the Amorites. They had taken unto themselves wives from among those nations and was giving their daughters to those people in marriage, so that the holy seed was being mingles with the seeds of the people of those lands. And when Ezra heard of these things he tore his clothes and his mantle and pulled out his hair and sat down astonished. Then Ezra called unto him all such as trembled at the mention of the word of the God of Israel. And sat all the rest of the day amazed and motionless at the hearing of the transgressions which were committed not only by the people, but by the very priests and Levites he had requested to teach the people.
