BRAGADAYJAH 1155
Letter sent to Darius the King.
So Zerubbabel and the prophets decided to carry on the work
regardless; but the opposition was quick to take up the attack. So then Tatmai
the governor and others came to them and asked them who commanded them to build
the house and to make up the walls. And they were asked by the governor and his
party what were the names of those that work on the wall; and they did not
answer them for the Lord was with them in continuing to build. So the Governor
and his party waited until Darius was ruling and then they wrote to him, saying,
“Darius King of all peace, Be it know unto the king that we went into the
province of Judah, to the house of the great God, which is built with great
stones, and timber is laid in the walls and this work goes fast on, and is
making good progress. Then asked we of these elders, who commanded you to build
this house and to build up these walls? And we asked them also their names so
that we could certify to thee the names of the chief of them.”
