BRAGADAYJAH 1165
The Treasury Committed to Twelve Priests.
Then Ezra separated twelve of the chief priests including Sherebiah,
Hashabiah and ten others of their brethren and weighed unto them the silver and
the gold and the vessels and the offering of the house of God, which the king
and his counsellors and his lords had offered in the presence of all Israel. He
gave into their custody, by weight six hundred and fifty talents of silver,
silver vessels a hundred talents and of gold a hundred talents and twenty
basons of gold, of a thousand drams, and two vessels of fine copper as precious
as gold. And Ezra told them that they themselves were holy unto the Lord, and that
the vessels were also holy, and the silver and the gold were a free will offering
unto the Lord God of their fathers. He charged them to watch them and keep them
until such time as they would be required to weigh them and present them before
the chief of the priests and the Levites, and the chief of the fathers of
Israel at Jerusalem in the chamber of the house of the Lord. And so the silver
and the gold and the holy vessels were taken into their custody by the priests
and the Levites to be transported to Jerusalem to be placed into the house of the Lord their God.
