A cloud covered the tent of the congregation; and by that
time they had seen it before; they were in awe as they knew they were in the
presence of the Most High.
Not even Moses was able to enter into the tent of the
congregation; because the presence of the glory of God was too overwhelming; but
afterwards when the cloud departed the children of Israel went on with their
journey. And so it was, thereafter, as
they journeyed; whenever the cloud came upon the Tabernacle, signifying the presence
of the Lord, the children of Israel rested on that day until the cloud departed
before carrying on with their journey on the following day. And so it was that
throughout their journey, the cloud would come upon the Tabernacle during the
day, and appeared in the form of fire by night.
The foregoing is a summary of the story of the Redemption of
God’s people out of the land of Egypt.
They had been there since before the death of Joseph enjoying the status
of guests in the land of Egypt, and well favored by the Pharaoh because of Joseph;
but the old King died and a new king and a new generation feared the obvious
prosperity of the Jews, and decided to enslave and oppress them.
For four hundred years the children
of Israel cried unto the Lord until at last the Lord heard their cry. By hearing their cry it is understood that
God decided it was time to do something about their cry; they had suffered
enough, and so now He sent Moses to deliver them. More
