To sum up the full significance of
the burnt offering, we find that they typified Christ in four distinct ways.
Firstly the offering was a sweet
savor to God, not only because of sin, but out of genuine and heartfelt
devotion to Him. The kind of devotion we witnessed in the Savoir when He came
down in human form, never failing to emphasize that all obedience, all service,
all manifestations of love was in obedience to the will of the Father.
Secondly, The offering was clearly
substitutionary, that is to say in the stead of the offeror.
Thirdly, the offer represented a
life given in total dedication and commitment.
Fourthly, It was totally burnt up,
signifying not only complete commitment; but that the sacrifice was fully
carried out.
Also the animal was divided in four
parts: a) the head, representing Christ’s thoughts, b) the legs representative
of His perfect walk, c) the inwards his feelings and d) the fat his tireless
vigor and health.
In addition the variety of the
animals was significant. The bullock
represented untiring labor and service to others; the lamb meekness and complete
submission, the goat strong minded leadership, and the turtledove humility
meekness and sorrowful innocence. More
