And Moses took the tabernacle and pitched it outside of the
camp some far distance from the camp, and called it the tabernacle of the
congregation. And it happened that
everyone who sought the Lord, went out to the tabernacle of the congregation
outside the camp. And so when Moses went
out of the camp and went into the tabernacle all the people stood by their
doors and watched until he was out of sight within the tabernacle. And it happened that when Moses went into the
tabernacle, a pillar of cloud descended and stood in front of the door of the
tabernacle, and the Lord spoke unto Moses there.
Now the
people saw the pillar of cloud stand before the tabernacle door, and the people
still remaining at the door of their tent worshipped where they were. And the
Lord spoke to Moses face to face, in the way a man speaks to his friend; and
after that, Moses returned back to the camp; but young Joshua his servant
remained within the tabernacle.
It should
be noted that the tabernacle mentioned here should not be confused with that
mentioned earlier, built and decorated according to the Lord’s directions.
This tabernacle was some temporary construction man made and
thus not the place dedicated formerly unto the Lord. More
