Elijah restores the Widow’s Son.
And so it happened that in the course of
time, the widow’s son fell ill; and his illness was so severe that he was near
death and there was no breath left in him. And in desperation the widow asked Elijah
if he had come to punish her for her sins by killing her son. And Elijah told
her to give him the child, and she did so.
And Elijah took the boy and carried him up to the high loft of the house
where he dwelt and laid the child upon his bed. And Elijah cried unto the Lord
and said, “O Lord, my God, has thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom
I reside by slaying her son?” And Elijah stretched himself upon the child three
times, and cried unto the Lord, and said, “O Lord my God, I pray thee let this
child’s soul come to him again.” And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah and the
soul of the child came into him again and he revived. And Elijah took the child
and brought him down from the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto
his mother, and told her, “See thy son liveth.” And the woman said to Elijah, “Now by this I
know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is
truth.”
