BRAGADAYJAH 1040
The Barrel of Corn and Cruse of oil
In response to Elijah’s request for a morel of bread, the widow said, “As the
Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but a handful of meal in the barrel,
and a little oil in a cruse; and behold I am gathering two sticks to dress it
for me and my son that we may eat it and die.” And Elijah told her to fear not,
but go and do as she had said, but to make him a little cake first and give it
to him, and afterwards make for herself and her son. For thus says the Lord God
of Israel, “The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil
fail until the day the Lord sends rain upon the earth.” And the widow went and
did as Elijah told her to do and she and her house ate for a full year. And the
barrel of meal did not run out, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to
the word of the Lord which He spoke by Elijah.
