Abijam died Asa reigned in his stead.
Abijam reigned in Jerusalem after the death of his father
Rehoboam. And he walked in all of the ways of his father and his heart was not
perfect with the Lord his God.
Nevertheless for David his father’s sake the Lord gave him a lamp in
Jerusalem to set up his son after him and to establish Jerusalem. And the war
started between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continued during the reign of Abijam who
rules in Jerusalem, and Baash, king of Israel continually. And eventually
Abijam died and was buried in the city of David. And he was succeeded by his
son Asa, who reigned in his stead. And Asa did that which was right in the
sight of God as David had done. And he
put away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his
father had made. Also he removed his mother Maachah from being queen because she
had made and worshipped idols. And Asa destroyed the idols she had made and burnt
them by the brook Kidron. And although
he had not broken down all the high places, his heart was nevertheless perfect
before God all his days. And he returned to the house of the Lord all the
things which his father had dedicated and the things which he himself had
dedicated, silver and gold and vessels.
