Jephthah Sent Messengers to the King of Ammon
Now Jephthah sent messengers to the King of the children of Ammon,
advising him to depart from the land of the children of Israel. But the king
replied saying that the land belonged to them and was theirs until they the
children of Israel came up from Egypt and fought against them and seized their
land; so now said the king of Ammon we are here to take back what was
originally ours. And further the king demanded, Jephthah must restore the land
peacefully. But Jephthah sent messengers again to the Median king, reminding
him that Israel did not take away the land of neither the Moabites nor the
Ammonites. For when Israel came up out of Egypt, we walked through the wilderness
unto the red sea and came to Kadesh. Then Israel sent messengers to the king of
Edom saying, let us I pray thee pass through your land. But the king of Edom
would not listen; and in like manner we sent messengers to the king of Moab but
neither would he listen, or consent to let Israel pass; and Israel dwelt in
Kadesh.
