Gideon is Hesitant
God told Gideon that He would surely be with him and allow him to smite
the Medianites; but Gideon is still hesitant; so he asked God to show him a
sign; do not depart from me until I bring you a present and set it before you,
said Gideon to the Lord. And the Lord
promised him that He would tarry. And Gideon went away and prepared a kid and
unleavened cakes of an ephod of flour. Gideon put the flesh in a basket, and
put the broth in a pot and brought it out unto the Lord under the oak tree and
presented it. And the angel of the Lord
said unto him, “Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them upon this
rock, and pour out the broth;” and Gideon did so. Then the angel of the Lord
stretched forth his staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the
unleavened cakes; and there rose up out of the rock, fire which consumed the
flesh and the unleavened cakes; and then the angel of the Lord departed out of
the sight of Gideon.
