The Lord Restored Israel
After the cleansing of Israel culminating in the extinction
of Achan and his entire family and possessions, the Lord told Joshua not to be
afraid or dismayed, but to arise and gather together all the men of war and go
up and take AI, “for I have given the King of AI and its people into thy hand.” Furthermore God told Joshua to take the
spoils of war including the cattle for a prey. God also told Joshua the
strategy to use in order to capture the city.
The plan was that thirty thousand brave men covertly take up position
near to the city by night. Then in the
morning Joshua and the rest of his army would approach the city as they had
done before and was slaughtered; but the plan was for the frontal sham attack
to run away from the city gate and have the men of Ai chase after them as before.
But the plan idea was to draw them out of the city and for the men in waiting
to then overrun the city leaving the men of Ai out in the open from where they
could be defeated.
