God assured Joshua of Victory over Jericho
After his encounter with the Divine Captain, Joshua found
himself upon an enemy, namely the people of Jericho lodged within a highly
fortified city, so that no one could go out or come in, and Joshua saw no way
in. But the Lord appeared unto him and assured him, and said, “Don’t worry, I have
already delivered into your hand, this city, its king and all its fighting
men. All you have to do is walk around
it with the fighting men once per day for six days. Have seven priests carry
trumpets of ram’s horn in front of the ark.
And on the seventh day have the priests march around the city seven
times and blow the trumpets and when you hear a long blast of the trumpet, have
the people shout with a great shout and the walls of the city will fall down
and the men of Israel will be all to climb over and possess the city.
