Sanctify yourselves, said Joshua
On the eve of their preparation to cross over Jordan, Joshua
told the people to sanctify themselves for the Lord would on the morrow, do
wonders among them. And Joshua also spoke to the priests and told them to take
up the ark of the covenant, and pass over ahead of the people; and they lifted
the ark of the covenant and led off before the people. And the Lord told Joshua, “This day will I
begin to magnify thee in the in the sight of all Israel so that they may know
that I was with Moses, so am I also with you.
And you shall command the priests who bear the ark of the covenant and
say to them that when they come to the brink of the waters of the Jordan, they
shall stand still in the Jordan. So Joshua summoned them near and told them
what the Lord had to say that they may know there is a living God among them
who will not fail to drive out from before them the Canaanites, the Hittites,
the Hivites, the Perizzites the Girgashites and the Amorites. For behold the
ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passes over before you into
the Jordan.
