Achan’s Fate
Having received Achan’s confession, Joshua sent men to
search Achan’s tent and for certain, the forbidden loot was found hidden in his
tent just as he had confessed. And so the items were removed and brought to
Joshua and the children of Israel, and laid out before the Lord. And Joshua and
all the children of Israel with him, took Achan together with the gold and
silver and the garment and his sons and his daughters, his oxen and his sheep
and his asses, and everything that belonged to him including the tent itself
and carried them into the valley of Achor. And Joshua addressed Achan and said,
“Because you have troubled us, the Lord shall trouble you.” And the whole multitude stoned Joshua and his
family and all that were gathered of his, with stones until they died and
afterwards they were burnt. And after that they piled up a large heap of stones
to mark the spot and the place was named Achor.
