Satan’s Second Assault on Job.
Again a day came when the sons of God went to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD. And again the Lord asked Satan from whence he came; and Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth and walking up and down on it.” And the Lord asked Satan whether he would admit that there was none on the earth as perfect and upright as Job was, remaining in his integrity, and refusing to depart from it, although he Satan had done so much to him to destroy him. And Satan answered and said, “Skin for skin, indeed all that a man has he will give for his life.” And the Lord told Satan to do as he would with Job save that he was not allowed to kill him. So Satan satisfied went away and immediately afflicted Job with painful boils all over his body from his head to his feet; and so afflicted was Job that he used a fragment of broken pottery to scratch himself and sat down in ashes.
