BRAGADAYJAH 1049
The Lord had regard to Ahab’s Repentance.
And the prophet Elijah told Ahab also that all that die of his in the city, the
dogs shall eat and those that die in the field, the birds of the air will eat;
for there was none before like him who sold himself to work wickedness in the
sight of the Lord, especially when stirred by Jezebel his wife; for Ahab did
most abominably in following idols according to the practices of the Amorites
whom the Lord cast out before the children of Israel. And it was so that when
Ahab heard the words of Elijah, he tore his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his
flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth and wept. And the word of the Lord came
again to Elijah saying, “see thou how Ahab humbles himself before me? I will not bring the evil in his days but in
his son’s days will I bring this evil upon his house.” And after that there was
peace between Syria and Israel for a period of three years. And during the third
year Jehoshaphat the king of Judah want down to speak with the king of Israel.
